When you print the English side, mark sure you are printing on the opposite side and upside-down. Every printer is different, so you may have to experiment the first time.

Internet Explorer 6/7/8

In general, IE has excellent printing support.

  1. Go to Print Preview (usually a drop down list next to the printer icon)
  2. Click Page Setup (which looks like a gear icon).
  3. Change these settings:

    Page Size: Letter
    Orientation: Portrait
Print Background Colors and Images: unchecked
    Enable Shrink-to-Fit: unchecked
    Margins: 0.75" (left); 0.25" (right); 0.5" (top); 0.25" (bottom)
    Every Header/Footer dropdown: -Empty-

  4. Print the Latin side first.
  5. Feed the paper back into your printer, but orient the paper to be sure you are printing on the opposite side and upside-down. Nota bene: Every printer is different, so you may have to experiment the first time. Try putting a small mark with a red pen in the top-left corner of a sheet of paper before you pritn the Latin side.
  6. Print the English side second.

If you are planning on printing from pre-cut templates, please use the Avery 27871 template. Generics are also available from Office Depot and Staples.

Or, you can just print on a normal piece of paper (or cardstock) and cut out the flashcards by hand.

Make sure you are aware ofthese common problems:
  • You may need to experiment with a few blank sheets of paper to get the margins correctly aligned.
  • Remember to turn off headers, footers, page numbers and anything else your browser normally prints out!
  • Turn off double-sided printing before you print! You will be manually flipping the pages!

Firefox 3

You may need to experiment with Firefox's settings to print properly.
  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Go to Print Preview.
  3. Click Page Setup.
  4. On the Format & Options tab, change these settings:

    Orientation: Portrait
    Scale: 100%
Shrink To Fit Page Width: unchecked
Print Background (Colors & Images): unchecked

  5. On the Margins & Header/Footer tab, change these settings:

You will need to experiment with your printer's actual margins
because FireFox may not calculate them correctly.
    Margins: 0.75" (left); 0.25" (right); 0.5" (top); 0.25" (bottom)
    Every Header/Footer dropdown: -Empty-

  6. Print the Latin side first.

At this time, I do not recommend printing in Chrome because it does not allow you to control paper size, margins, etc.

If you would like to experiment with printing in Chrome, experiment with the instructions for Internet Explorer or Firefox.
