Gothi, ōrum, m., = Γόθοι, the Goths, the great tribe of Northern Germany: huc possem victos inde referre Gothos, Aus. Epigr. 3 fin.; Inscr. Orell. 1135; 1159; and scanned Gōthi, id. ib. 1162 (of the year A. D. 565). Usually regarded as the same tribe, called, at an earlier period, Gothō-nes or Gotōnes, Tac. A. 2, 62; and, Gutōnes, Plin. 4, 14, 28, § 99; 37, 2, 11, § 35; but these were more probably the Getae, i. e. the Prussians and Lithuanians; cf. Holzmann ad Tac. G. p. 260 sq.
