calo (as a very ancient word, with its derivatives also written kalo; v. the letter K), āre, v. a. cf. Gr. καλῶ; Engl. call, to call, call out, proclaim, call together, summon, convoke; only as t. t. in reference to religious matters; v. Kalendae, and the ancient formulary in Varr. L.
